Titan Medical Inc. Congratulates Dr. Reiza Rayman on the Completion of His PhD in Robotic Telesurgery

TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 10/14/08 -- Titan Medical Inc. ("TMD") (TSX VENTURE: TMD) is proud to congratulate Dr. Reiza Rayman, President and Director of TMD, for receiving his PhD in Telesurgery. A pioneer in this research topic worldwide, this recognition was granted to Dr. Rayman for his thesis entitled 'Robotic Telesurgery: An Investigation of Utility, Human Adaptation, and Performance.'

Dr. Rayman has dedicated himself to the research and use of technologies and devices related to surgery for many years. Dr. Rayman collaborated with Dr. Doug Boyd to implement and develop new techniques related to robotic cardiac surgery. The two performed the world's first robotic beating heart cardiac bypass surgery in September 1999. Subsequently, Dr. Rayman co-authored grants to the federal and provincial governments to research several areas of robotic surgery. These grants were successful, and totaled to a program of $18 million. The program resulted in the additional formation of a $12 million research facility which Dr. Rayman led in its conceptual and detailed designed phases. Dr. Rayman holds an M.Sc. (Medical Biophysics - Fluid Dynamics) from The University of Western Ontario, an M.D. from The University of Toronto, and a now a Ph.D. in Telesurgery from The University of Western Ontario.

Craig Leon, Chief Executive Officer of Titan Medical Inc. commented as follows:

"We are delighted to see Dr. Rayman achieve this prestigious recognition. This is one of many honorable firsts for him and it will not be surprising that his dedication and commitment to researching and bringing new technologies in the field of surgery will make him one of the true pioneers and leaders. Titan Medical is making good progress in our efforts to commercialize new robotic technologies which have the potential to provide significant benefits for surgery. Telesurgery is an important component to the company's next generation robotic surgical platform, and we are very fortunate of having Dr. Rayman being the leader in this field."

About Telesurgery: Telesurgery is the ability for a surgeon to perform surgery on a patient from a different location. Telesurgery is a combination of advanced elements of robotics, communication technologies and management information systems. Currently in the field of robotic surgery, most of robots are controlled by surgeons at the location of the surgery.

Telesurgery, on the other hand, offers the promise for patients to have access to surgeons from around the world, without the need for patients to travel beyond their local hospital for surgery.

About Titan Medical Inc.: Titan Medical Inc. is a Canadian public company (TSX VENTURE: TMD) focused on the development and commercialization of robotic surgical technologies. The company is currently developing a next generation 4-armed robotic surgical system to permit surgeons to remotely manipulate surgical instruments. Robotic surgery has developed over the past ten years into a proven and growing method of treatment. The global robotic surgical market size is estimated at $3.4 billion with a potential 6,000 robotic surgical systems placement opportunities(1). The company is researching and developing innovative technologies to empower surgeons using robots for the operating room of the future.
